Spotlight: Cape Neddick’s Nubble Light

Perched on a rocky island along Maine’s rugged coast, Nubble Light was initially commissioned in 1874 by President Rutherford B. Hayes before becoming fully-automated in 1987. Today, the lighthouse situated in the small town of York is now listed on the National Historic Register. It’s also a prime spot for a picnic lunch and panoramic photos while wildlife-watching. Don’t be surprised to spot Great Black Backed Gulls, Herring Gulls, Sun Fish, and Harbor Seals. Post-picnic, stop by the gift shop with an assortment of lighthouse photographs, postcards, yo-yo’s, t-shirts, books, and even preserves and food items such as apple mango chipotle sauce by The Farmer’s Plate.
